What is Atmakaraka Planet

Atmakaraka planet indicates the Journey of Our Soul. Atma Means Soul and Karaka means Significator. In Bhagvad Gita Lord Krishna Said that the Soul is originated from Lord itself and it goes through the Cycle of birth-death and rebirth to fulfill its Purpose on this Planet. During this Journey it Learns all the necessary Lessons and when its Purpose is achieved it becomes free from the cycle of Life and death and Attains Moksha or Mukti where it again Joins the Lord itself. 

In Horoscope Atmakaraka planet will tell us what is our Life Purpose and what Lessons we will Learn in this Life. Not only that as it holds the key of all our Past Life Karmas, it can tell about our karmic debts. 

Not planet can work against the wish of Atmakaraka planet. It is Like the King and every other planets of the Horoscope will follow his wish. It shows the self or aham or I ness within us. When we become free from this “I” or Aham, we can attain Moksha and the role of Atmakaraka is to teach us the Lessons to become free from all kinds of Bondages.

Steps to Calculate the Atmakaraka Planet

1. Create Your Natal Chart: First, you’ll need your birth details, including date, time, and place of birth, to generate your Horoscope or Birth chart. You can use astrology software or online tools to do this.

2. Look at the Degrees of the Planets: In your Horoscope, note the degree of all seven planets: Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, and Saturn.
3. Rahu is always retrograde. So for Rahu we have to deduct the Degree of Rahu from the zodiac sign to get its Position. For example if Rahu is in 20 degree of any sign, we will simply do 30-20=10. So Rahu has traveled 10 degree in this Sign. In this way we have to find the actual Longitude traveled by Rahu and see if it can become the Atmakaraka.

4. Identify the Planet with the Highest Degree: The planet that holds the highest degree (in any zodiac sign) becomes your Atmakaraka. This planet may be in any house or sign, but it’s the degree that matters. So Atmakaraka is the planet which traveled highest Longitude in any sign.

The placement of Atmakaraka planet in different House is very Important. Lets discuss the results for Different Houses.

Atmakaraka planet in First House inidicates Nobility and birth in a good family. The person will Achive High Status and position even if born in a humble conditions. If the Atmakaraka Planet is conjunct with Navamsa Lagna, it will make you fortunate and wealthy.

If the Atmakaraka planet is in Second house, it is a Good placement for Spiritual progress. If Saturn is also strong along with placement, it can make a person Sanyasi or Tapasyi.  You can do Lot of charity for humanitarian purposes.

They have the ability to solve the problems quickly and to act decisively in crisis situations. If Atmakaraka Mars is strong and in the 11th house, they are respected or admired by others due to valor and fearlessness in any confrontational situation.

Atmakaraka is in the 12th house from Lagna is not good and it shows that nothing is going to come easily in Life. It can also give health problems throughout your Life. This is also a placement which is good for Overall Religious matters but not for overall fortune and Materialistic Success. This shows taht You should do some kind of charity and serve the Society.
